S1E24: What Have You Done? - Recommended. Intro to Magic Man, an important supporting character. All you need to know is that the Duke of Nuts is a supporting Candy Kingdom character, and Finn values the truth over his feelings here. Great characterization of Finn and Jake, and one of the most memorable of episodes. Establish’s Finn’s fear of the ocean, which is important for both his character development and as a hint towards his backstory. Intro to NEPTR, a small supporting character, as well as great Ice King characterization. While it may seem like this is the episode where we learn where Jake’s powers come from, it is not. Introduction to Marceline the Vampire Queen. A good episode nonetheless, but not a very important one. An important episode in the development of Finn, Jake, and Lady Rainicorn’s relationships to one another. All you really need to know is that this is around the time that the AT crew decided on the fact that Ooo would take place in a post-apocalyptic land.

Ricardio is another character who will come back later, plus this episode also starts off Finn’s crush on Princess Bubblegum.

S1E7: Ricardio the Heart Guy - Recommended. Also great characterization for Finn and his hero alignment. Introduces the Enchiridion, a powerful book used throughout the series. This episode isn’t THAT important, but it comes back in another episode later, and is one of the funniest AT episodes in my opinion.

This episode is mostly filler, but it’s quite funny and is great intro for Lumpy Space Princess, an important supporting character, as well as characterization for Finn, Jake, and their friendship. S1E2: Trouble in Lumpy Space - Recommended. Marceline and Ice King, the last two protagonists, will be introduced soon. This is a great intro episode for three of the five main characters Finn, Jake, and Princess Bubblegum. SEASON ONE: S1E1: Slumber Party Panic - Required. NOTE: Just because an episode is marked as filler, doesn’t mean it’s a bad episode. I’ll be sorting episodes into three categories: Required, Recommended, and Filler. Hello all! Since new Adventure Time content is coming to HBOmax soon, I figured I’d put together a list for fellow fans to catch up on/rewatch the series, with a focus on plot and character development.
